Schedule details
Your tapas adventure begins in Plaza de la Villa, the old main square in central Madrid. After a brief introduction to the city and its tapas credentials, we head towards Mercado de San Miguel, the first gourmet market in all of Spain, for the first of many food tastings. Here we start with an aperitivo, what else? We try traditional vermouth and taste some of Spain’s most succulent olives.
Spain is a well-known cheese-producing nation, offering the world such cheesy delights as manchego, mahón, and idiazabal. We try some delicious Spanish cheese, alongside a glass of wine, of course, at one of the best cheese stalls in the market.
Next, we head to the pulsating barrio of La Latina to explore its narrow lanes and fascinating history. This neighbourhood is ultra trendy right now and is popular with locals for its vibrant food and drink scene. We visit a tiny, off-the-beaten-path restaurant that is well known for traditional tapas dishes with a fusion twist. This tiny spot only has six tables, so it’s always busy and has a great atmosphere!
From there, we head back to the oldest part of Madrid, and as we walk, we continue to chat about the city’s history and food culture. Your guide points out some artisanal stores where you can pick up authentic, handmade souvenirs made by locals. If there’s time and the group are interested, we make a quick stop at one of these shops.
Our next stop, right in the heart of Plaza Mayor, is to try the iconic bocadillo de calamares, the most famous sandwich in the city. To wash it down, we try some local beer too! Back on the streets, your local guide points out interesting sights and alternative food and drink stops for you to explore on your own as we head to our penultimate foodie highlight of the day.
Does it get much better than potato croquettes? The perfect snack at any time of day and with so many different flavours to choose from, croquettes are the best! We try some of Madrid’s most famous croquettes together at a heritage tavern that was originally built in 1860 and only specializes in these special potato treats.
After that, we cross Puerta del Sol, one of the most iconic spots in Madrid, and finish our tapas adventure with a local dessert and sweet wine in yet another historic location. This joint has been run by the same family for over 100 years, serving a traditional Spanish dessert that might just remind you of something familiar.
Once you’ve finished your dessert, your guide takes you back to Puerta del Sol, where they can help you out with directions back to your accommodation or ideas on where to go next!

Leila was fantastic – she clearly loves Madrid and it’s easy to see why. She took us to some amazing places for food and drink which we might not have tried otherwise. Was a real chance to do as the locals do!

The value for this tour is second to none. We toured 4 locations, ate great food, and have great conversations. Andrea is the best!

This tour was amazing. Andrea took us to local spots I wouldn’t have found on my own. At every stop, we had the specialty and a drink – great value for your money. We also got to skip the lines at the really popular places, which was awesome. Andrea also gave us a little bit of history at every spot, which was perfect as I’d never been to Madrid. Highly recommended.

This was the absolute best food tour ever! Highly recommend!! We had Daniela as our guide; she was funny, personable, down-to-earth, and extremely knowledgeable about Madrid, the food, drinks, history, and more. Daniela absolutely made this tour exceed all of our expectations. 10 out of 10, would do again.

This was an amazing experience! Daniela was absolutely fantastic– she told interesting/funny/unusual stories that gave additional context to the food and history of Madrid. She also takes you to a great combination of touristy and local spots to give you a range of experiences in just a few hours. We left with a long list of recs for our next visit to Madrid. Whether you’re in Madrid for 1 day or 1 month, I cannot recommend this tour more!

I can’t recommend this tour with Daniela enough! There are so many similar tours to choose from, but I think we got the best one. Our guide gave the perfect mix of history, culture, and humor, and her gregarious personality brought the group together immediately – we even continued the evening together with a few drinks after the tour was over. Her food choices were excellent too. This was a great way to spend an evening!

Booking this tour was one of the best decisions made in planning this trip. Daniella was funny, knowledgeable, and made everyone in our group feel included. By the end of the tour we were friends. It may have been raining but we had a fantastic tour. The food, beverages and company could not be beat. It will be a highlight of this vacation!

Really nice way to spend an evening in Madrid! The locations were all carefully chosen and offered unique eats and/or historical perspectives you will probably not find on your own. The pace was great, the food was awesome, and Leila was a super friendly / knowledgeable guide that really took care of us and answered all of our questions.

Daniela was the best host and tour guide! She immediately created an environment of fun while weaving in historical tidbits as we made our way around Madrid. She was an expert in the area, and chose incredible places for us to enjoy food and drinks. I cannot recommend this experience enough!
